For Individuals Seeking Psychotherapy

Why Art Psychotherapy may work for me?

Art Psychotherapy may help you if you are experiencing psychological or emotional distress which is significantly affecting how you function in your daily life.

You may have already visited your GP and been offered medication. You may have already experienced time-limited, purely talking therapies.  You may have already undergone several different assessments and diagnoses. Yet you still feel your life is being significantly limited by your condition and symptoms.

How does Art Psychotherapy work?

Art Psychotherapy combines talking therapy with a range of different creative techniques to help you explore and express different thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are difficult to understand through words alone. Art Psychotherapy aims to provide you with the opportunity to explore your issues and needs in a deeper, more creative way, within a supportive psychotherapeutic relationship.

Through deepening your own self-awareness, Art Psychotherapy offers you the freedom to reflect, explore and build upon your own inner resources to become the person you truly want to be.

At The Golden Yew Project we offer short (up to 6 months), medium (6-12 months) and longer-term (12 months plus) one-to-one psychotherapy to enable you to work through your issues in a timeframe that best suits your individual needs. We also offer a range of group-based sessions.

Can my GP refer me?

Yes, your GP can refer you to us for inclusion in your overall treatment plan. We will carry out an initial assessment to determine the potential effectiveness of Art Psychotherapy for your issues. Based on this, we can then refer you to one of our team of professionally registered Art Psychotherapists.

Can I refer myself?

Yes, you can refer yourself by applying directly to info@thegoldenyewproject.org. Write to us, outlining a brief history of your issues and symptoms and one of our Art Psychotherapists will respond to you with a view to setting up an initial assessment. Please note that your communication will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Can I afford Art Psychotherapy?

We make every effort to say yes.

Access to the appropriate psychological support can be extremely challenging for certain individuals, groups and communities. As a not-for-profit organisation we seek funding to give people access to the appropriate psychological support that otherwise could not be received. Our aim is to offer people appropriate, effective, affordable treatment based on their specific personal circumstances.

That means that we offer a sliding scale for payment of our services based on each person’s affordability and the availability of grant funds to subsidise the work.

Conditions we treat.

The clients we have experience of working with cover a range of difficulties, disabilities and diagnoses including:

·      Abuse: including emotional, physical and sexual abuse.
